Sam’s entrepreneurial journey began back in 2002 when he opened his first bar & restaurant in Leicester. Over the following six years he opened another site in Leicester with a further two units in London. During 2006 he’d grown sales to over £2 million per annum and employed over forty people across all four operations. Unfortunately the recession of 2008/9 had left its mark, subsequently Sam had to restructure and down size to just one operation, which is currently operated by a manager. Around this period he’d also started a family, so his priorities had shifted towards finding a more stable ‘work/life’ balance. Fortunately he managed to secure a position at community regeneration organisation in Leicester. Since starting in 2009 he’s gone onto secure three European Regional Development Funded business support programmes, with a combined value of £3.3 million. His primary responsibility is to lead the ERDF ‘Leicester for Business’ consortium, which is a collaboration between nine partner agencies who collectively deliver business support activities across the city. Whilst in post he’s also secured a contract with a local college to deliver accredited business start up workshops, and he’s also completed his first year of a Masters in Leadership.,It wasn’t long before he got the urge to start his own business again. Using an idea based on a personal problem experienced whilst selecting gifts for his son’s birthday, he was encouraged to adopted the lean methodology approach, and develop a Minimum Viable Project. Over the past six months he’s managed to find three other, highly skilled and knowledgeable partners to build giftcrowd.com. This service will make it easy to help pool, fundraise and collect money for any event or celebration.
